Exercising can give your skin that healthy glow, but it can also trigger breakouts if you don’t maintain a proper skin care regimen. Sweat and dirt can clog pores during a workout, leading to breakouts and blackheads. Fortunately, there are ways that you can keep your skin looking clear and bright, even after a hard workout.
Pre-Workout Skin care:
Before you start your workout, wash your face to remove any makeup. When you sweat, your pores open, and if you’re wearing makeup, the combination of sweat and oil can clog your pores and cause acne. Even if you’re not wearing cosmetics, still cleanse pre-workout and treat your skin with something that removes bacteria, like a topical antibiotic or topical benzoyl peroxide.
Try to refrain from using oily hair products and conditioners on intense workout days. Such beauty products travel down your face or back during perspiration & find themselves trapped inside open pores.
During a Workout:
Sweating can be a great way to detoxify your skin, but exercise equipment is a breeding ground for bacteria. Always wipe down machines before and after a workout and avoid touching your face throughout aerobics. Keep a clean towel on you to pat sweat dry and remember to drink tons of water.
Post Workout Skin care:
Once you’ve finished exercising, it’s important to get out of your sweaty clothing and rinse not just your face, but your body also. Take a warm, not hot, shower as soon as possible and use a gentle cleanser to avoid clogging pores and unwanted breakouts.
Once your face is clean, follow-up with toner and then use a moisturizer to re-hydrate your skin. And because your body loses so much water in heated environments & during high heart rates, you’ll need to keep hydrating post-workout for your skin to recover.
